WYD: First day

Today was the official opening of the WYD. Our first appointment was the opening Mass in the afternoon. That gave us a free morning to walk around Rio de Janeiro. It was impressive to see lots of groups of young people from so many different countries walking and visiting some of the many churches in Rio. In some of those places, celebrations and prayer meetings had been organised gathering sometimes groups from different countries. In every church we found volunteers helping with explanations.

Once again they were very excited and curious each time they found some bishops. My two brother bishops were good enough to tell every group I was also a bishop as I had chosen to wear the shirt of the WYD we were given when we arrived.

In the few hours we walked in the morning we met groups from Brazil, Argentina (second largest delegation after Brazil), Chile, Venezuela, USA, Canada, South Korea, Germany... No groups from Africa yet though we know they are here (like South Africa and Swaziland).
